Maternity session Prep Guide

Firstly, I just want to say thank you for giving me the opportunity to document this amazing journey for you, Whether this is your first baby, or you are adding a new member to your family, pregnancy is a monumental time in your life, and I am honoured that you have chosen me to capture this special time in your life. My aim for this session is to capture all the emotion, anticipation, and joy that you are feeling in these last few weeks of pregnancy and give you precious memories that last forever. I want to ensure that when you look back on these images of your beautiful bump you feel like the goddess that you are, and appreciate how incredible your body truly is, so here a just few little tips to help you prepare for your maternity session.

Things to Think About Before Your Session

  • Best time to schedule your maternity sessioniis 34-36 weeks.  This is when you will have a nice little bump, but before you are too big to move comfortably.

  • It is not necessary to have your hair & makeup professionally done for your photo session, I want to capture your natural beauty, and your beautiful pregnancy glow. Please keep your makeup as simple as possible, dark or heavy eye makeup do not mix well for outdoor portraits as you will be moving around and you might get a little sweaty.

  • Consider how you feel about varying levels of undress in your photographs, and the final look that you want in your pictures..  Please don’t hesitate to tell me if you are not comfortable in a certain pose or with a certain body part uncovered.

  • If you’re doing semi-nude/implied nude photos, bras and underwear will create noticeable lines on your skin, so wear loose-fitting clothing to the shoot. You can add undergarments as necessary for photos later in the shoot.

Deciding what to wear for your family photos can be really stressful for some. Trust me, I’ve been there!  You want to create a look that looks timeless, flows well together, and feels comfortable for you and your family.  Here are some tips that can help you achieve a beautifully styled, cohesive look for your photos.

What to Wear:
  • Coordinate, don’t match

  • Neutrals colours look best with pops of colour.

  • Pop of colour is GOOD (mustard, burgundy, olive green)

  • Wear something that is comfortable and YOU. If you don’t like what you see in the mirror then you are not going to like it on camera.

  • Make sure to dress weather appropriate

  • Limit patterns, add textures

  • Use a colour palette to help coordinate your outfits

  • Plan ahead!  Waiting until the last minute can leave you feeling rushed and looking uncoordinated.

What NOT Wear:
  • All white or all black (NO, black sweaters)

  • Do NOT all match

  • Shirts with logos or numbers

  • Crazy patterns or thin stripes

  • Something you would not normally wear

  • Neon colours

Here are a few items you might like to bring to Your Session:

  • Pretty bra/bralette

  • Your favourite maternity dress, or flowy maxi dress

  • Maxi skirt that fits below the bump

  • Cotton, lace, or silk kimono/ dressing gown

  • Jeans (they don’t need to button up)

Other Items

  • Hats, scarves

  • Any personal items, that you want to incorporate

Other useful tips–

  • Don’t forget to moisturise your beautiful bump, hands, arms & legs. You might have a lot of skin on show, and you want it to look smooth and glowing in your photos.

  • Bring a water bottle in case you get thirsty

  • Please try and arrive a little early to your shoot, so we can have a little meet and greet before hand, and to ensure you have found the right location.

  • Relax, we’re going to have a great time

I have a range of beautiful items in my client wardrobe that I am more than happy for you to wear during our session, including maxi dresses and lace kimonos that are perfect options for showing off your beautiful bump. If you would like to see what I have to offer please just let me know and ill send through some photos.

And remember, the final photographs are yours, and I want you to be happy with the images.  These are just general tips, but ultimately it is YOUR session and I want you too feel comfortable, that is the most important thing! I’m really looking forward to your maternity session! If you have any questions or concerns beforehand, please feel free to email or call me. If you are running late or have any issues the day of the session, please call or text me on 0420906484.
